3M delivers the first M-23 closed loop recorder to Capitol Records on 11/25/64. The M23 was actually a second-generation machine that was first shown publicly as a mockup at AES NYC in the Fall of 1965, and first delivered to customers in mid 1966

the first 3M low-noise tape - 201,202,203 - which had a greatly improved "weighted" signal to noise ratio, probably in 1964 or earlier. Scotch 206 was just 3 dB better than 201.Dale Manquen,3M M23 and M56 design engineer at 3M from 1965 to 1969
